Postmodernism, Lies and the Truth

"Truth and falsehood are opposed; but truth is the norm not of truth only but of falsehood also." ------ C.S. Lewis, The Allegory of Love

Without a standard, there is chaos. Truth is (should be) the basis for any discussion or debate. When one acknowledges the truth, he is consenting to play by a certain set of rules, always keeping the truth in mind. To veer from this ideology is folly.

The Postmodernist would have you believe there are "many truths" to be known and that these truths will be different for each and every individual. While the Postmodernist would have you believe that my "desire for things in black and white" is just preference, he, too, must have to concede that there MUST be one truth for everyone when making his case. Isn't stating that "there are many truths" in effect stating that there is an overriding principle that implies such and that it applies to all individuals living? Even in arguing there are "many truths" you argue that this statement applies to everyone, in effect creating one over-arching truth.

The truth is, making this type of argument allows for a "fluid" or "changing" truth (on one hand) that allows one to force their own ideology on someone else. In fact, though one holds these views, it doesn't change actual truth (as noted above). Simply denying that truth exists doesn't make it so. A simple look at the Postmodernist and his philosophy shows us that, even though he won't acknowledge it, or admit it, that he is playing by a set of rules whether he likes it or not.

Truth is not arrived at but through difficult work.

Agreed....but this comment implies there is a Truth to be known, does it not?

Your sentence above that would imply what I've already covered concerning the changing of the question from "what is true" to "what is truth."
