Sports.....my cursory overview/opinion.....

Well, I suppose it's about time for some short "takes" on sports. Let's start with Baseball.....My Red Sox finally got the monkey off their back and won the big one. This last postseason was one of the most exciting that I can remember, and even if you're a Yankees or Cardinals fan, you would at least have to agree that it indeed was exciting and was good for baseball.....now, that being said.....can someone please FIX BASEBALL!?? I grew up watching the KC Royals.....now before I get sympathy posts and condolences and that sort of thing, let me remind you that the Royals used to be contenders every year throughout the 70's and 80's, and would typically get beaten by the Yankees in the postseason (thus creating my lifelong deep hatred for all that is Pinsrtipe). Now? Teams like the Royals don't even stand a chance.....it's as though all the league is a "Farm System" for the few big payroll teams (Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, etc). It really stinks as a baseball fan to see someone like the Yanks (Projected 140+ million dollar payroll next year) playing the likes of KC for instance (42 Million Dollar Payroll this past year). Why can't things run like the NFL? You know.....revenue sharing....parity? These are all good things. Anyway....Go RedSox..... Let's move on to the NBA.....Does anybody even care anymore? Back in the Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan (1st) era, the NBA was fun to watch....now it is just a bunch of lazy thugs who are only out to make a buck (the vast majority, that is...I don't want to accuse EVERY NBA player of this) but man, it's not even basketball anymore....something has to be done.....like actually enforcing the rules of basketball. And what about the Ron Artest debacle? Do you think David Stern was serious when he thought that having a team in Las Vegas would "hurt the league's reputation?" Wow......as far as I'm concerned, a year suspension is not enough for Artest.....he should be banned for life....and what about a federal judge "overturning" Stern's decision about Jermaine O'Neal's suspension and shortening it? Does this now mean that Stern will be powerless in the future to "lay down the law?" It will be an interesting situation to watch....Any way....I'll just stick to College Basketball....even though it is more watered down now because of all the lost young talent to the NBA, it is still the best game in town. But, I suppose that is material for a later post......until next time! Have a great weekend!
